HORSEMEN CORPUS AIR SHOW DEBRIEF VIDEO

Uploaded By: Ed Shipley 04/23/2009

Normally we don't release our training tapes, but since our flight in the Bearcats was so unusual, we thought you'd might like to take a peak.

You'll hear Jim Beasley's voice on the radio making the calls, Dan Friedkin is on Right Wing, and Ed Shipley is on Left.

nice job, now if there was only some of that great round engine sound.

Ed Shipley 4/23/09 9:38PM

Trust me... we love that mighty round engine sound too... this is the tape we use to review our
flight together.... so we are interested in the calls and how we are flying.

Pecker 4/23/09 8:47PM

Brilliant work. You guys fly like you're wired together. Well done.

Rhino 4/23/09 11:24PM

I have to say you guys are very quiet. Seems like Jim doesn't have to tell you much about what he's
doing. Is this accurate?

Ed Shipley 4/24/09 6:56PM

It is exactly how Jimmy talks and leads.

Moggy 4/24/09 2:12AM

Very smooth. Love the roll, very nice coordination!

Rich Bonneau 4/24/09 3:38AM

Outstanding! Thanks for posting this Ed. Amazing performance!

Badger 4/24/09 5:19AM

Ed, Outstanding. You guys fly great together.

Rob.Brindley 4/24/09 5:32AM

Wow, loveing it :)

f4dskyray 4/24/09 7:46AM

Wow great vidoe guys. I have never seen a Bearcat either in the air or at a museum.

bradV 4/24/09 9:31AM

Pure respect. It even looks hard to keep that tight formation so I can only imagine just how hard it
truly is being the one behind the stick making it happen.

Looks like a great show to watch.

Envenomator 4/24/09 12:58PM

Awesome! I've only seen 1 F8F in the air at one time. Seeing 3 with that close of seperation is just
too cool. I can only imagine what it looks and sounds like in person! Thanks Ed!

wendovertom 4/24/09 4:01PM

You should repaint the planes and do a Blue Angels heritage tour!

MRHCT 4/24/09 5:48PM

Fantastic!! 4.0 across the board!
Thanks for putting it up Ed.
Oceana?

Ed Shipley 4/24/09 6:57PM

Oceana.... now that would be fun.

uglycav 4/24/09 6:44PM

Which plane is easier for the formation aerobatics, the Mustang or the Bearcat?

Ed Shipley 4/24/09 7:00PM

They are different. The Bearcat is easier in most ways... lots of power, no real torque issues.
However, it is more delicate. You have to be careful with the airframe and engine. With the Mustang
you can just kinda have at it. One thing is for sure.... it is hard to keep from getting oil on you
when you fly Bearcats!

Andy NIxon 4/24/09 7:19PM

When did you guys film this?

Ed Shipley 4/24/09 10:38PM

Last weekend at the Corpus air show.

Andy NIxon 4/26/09 11:00AM

Ed I was wondering which day and was this the actual routine or like a training flight because i was
able to see you guys do some practicing saturday night and then the routine on Sunday.

CaptJon615 4/24/09 10:54PM

Excellent job -- Jim, Ed, and Dan!!!
If I didn't know any better, I could've sworn I was watching a "vintage" Blue Angels film!

c001834a 4/25/09 6:08AM

What RPM did you leave the prop at..2600? Although I suspect that each formation position had to use
varying manifolds pressures, was there an average setting that worked for most of the routine?

Yama 4/25/09 6:01PM

You guys look GREAT! Stay safe...Yama

Ed Shipley 4/26/09 5:35PM

YAMA! Good Lord! Great to hear from you! Hope you are well. Drop me a line at ed@asb.tv. Hope you
are well.

Yama 4/25/09 6:02PM

You guys look GREAT!!!
Stay safe!
Yama

Ed Shipley 5/25/09 4:47PM

Yama!

Hope you are well... miss seeing you!

Shipley

Beaker 4/27/09 12:55PM

Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing, looking good guys.

Beaker 4/27/09 12:56PM

Thanks for sharing! Looking great guys. How was the torque over the top with that huge prop?

Ed Shipley 4/27/09 6:12PM

The torque is not like the Mustang.... it is way more dialed out... at least it felt that way for
me. The Mustangs when they get slow at the top will torque off to the side... kinda cool to be
upside down and see the formation slide sideways.

Conniecrew 4/29/09 3:12AM

Nice work guys. Looks like you've flown alittle before.

The Big Cats are impressive.

Ed, how's the '86 doing? I miss working on it for you.

ABlue46.Saw the Bearcats fly at CHINO May 16 2009 emulating our performance by the Blue Angels
during my tour with them in 1946/47.Even with my failing eyesight,I was totally impressed with their
routine and execution.I expressed my opinion in an emotional way which I didnt know existed in me,to
all three pilots.Even after 63 years ,the sounds of those round engines got my emotions revved up.I
am sure many spectators are in for pleasnt surprise to see those Bearcats in future airshows around
the country.Once
again THANK YOU to all the pilots, suporting personnel, and The HORSEMEN for a great weakend.
Al Taddeo 1946/47 member Blue Angels.

Ed Shipley 6/12/09 5:59PM

Al... you have forgotten more about flying than we will ever know! Thanks so much for being with us
and sharing your history. Cheers Ed Shipley
