Full Version: Modeling the Horsemen

I've been building plastic models since I was 5 years old. Although I have not built a model in a couple years, I'd like to start building the aircraft flown by the Horsemen in 2009. Later on I'd like to build the Mustangs flown by the Four Horsemen years ago.

By looking through the airshow forums I've identified the following aircraft:

MUSTANGS
Princess Elizabeth- Tyndall, Atlantic City
Bald Eagle- Rhode Island, Atlantic City
Double Trouble Two- Jones Beach, Luke, Tyndall, Rhode Island, Atlantic City
DF*X- Jones Beach, Luke
City of Winnipeg- Jones Beach
Ferocious Frankie- Duxford
Big Beautiful Doll- Duxford
Miss Velma- Duxford

BEARCATS
Denver #14- Corpus Christi, Chino
#224- Corpus Christi, Chino
#225- Corpus Christi, Chino

In addition to the airshow aircraft I'd like to build the Mustangs that were used in the first Horsemen 3-ship in the off-season, but to get those I've got to watch the "JIMMY TAKES THE LEAD" video.

Does the list look about right to everybody? I do have a couple questions though-

Who owns the aircraft flown by the Horsemen? I've got a general idea but I'm not 100% sure. Also, who flies Left Wing and Right Wing?

Thanks for whatever help ya'll can provide.

I do believe Jim owns Bald Eagle and City of winnepeg. Dan now owns Princess Elizabeth, not sure who owns Double Trouble 2 but its been at the Coatesville hanger for a while. Maybe Dan? or just speculating here The ASB conglomerate. If anyone knows differently please pipe up.

Sounds like a fun project. What scale were you thinking?

Here's a lead for City Of Winnipeg decals. This guy does nice work and you can get them in any scale.

I build 1/48th scale. Thanks for the link. I put a similar post up on Aircraft Resoucre Center and someone else gave me the same link. I thought for sure that the City of Winnipeg would be the hardest aircraft to find!

Jimmy owns "Bald Eagle".
Dan and his dad Tom own the other 4 Mustangs, although "City of Winnipeg" is for sale now. They also own the 224 and 225 Bearcats.
Rod Lewis owns the #14 Bearcat.

For Duxford, "Big Beautiful Doll" is owned by Rob Davies, "Miss Velma" is owned by The Fighter Collection, and "Ferocious Frankie" is owned by the Old Flying Machine Company.

Jimmy is lead, Dan is right wing, and Ed is left wing.

Thanks Ryan. I was pretty sure about the Mustangs, just not the Bearcats. Is BBD @ Duxford Ed's former Mustang? Thanks.

BBD isn't Ed's former mustang, It was owned by the Old Flying Machine Co. at Duxford for several years before selling it to Rob Davies who currently owns it and operates it from his airstrip at Woodchurch In Kent.

Rob was kind enough to let me fly his lovely "Doll". I use to own a Mustang with the same paint scheme back in the day....

Cheers
Ed

I've made a little progress, I just received my "City of Winnipeg" decals from CanMilAir Decals.

Nice shots Ed, that's my favourite colour scheme on a Mustang.

I've been using CanMilAir decals for a few years now and have nothing but good things to say about them. They are very thin so you need to use care when handling them but once applied they conform well to the surface of your model.

Sorry for the late reply Mike. No, I have not had a chance to use them yet. However, from what Spooky said I'll have no trouble with them.

Hi everyone, I am going to try to model the Horsemen in 1/144 scale. I am going to try to create my own decals for Princess Elizabeth, Bald Eagle and Double Trouble II. I was wondering if anyone has any good clear, head-on pictures of the aircraft names for each Mustang. I was also wondering if anyone could tell me what the correct color is for the top of the fuselage and wings on Bald Eagle.
Thank you in advance for any information that you can provide.
