The Saturday event IMHO was disappointing. It was a beautiful day. I got there about noon and went over to the Brandywine Airport side hoping to see the USCG JayHawk SAR demo but found out later that it had been scrapped. The Sea King demo did not happen or the USCG Dauphin Demo or the PennStar medevac demo. I heard over the scanner that the USCG had maintenance issues but might fly up Sunday (though upon reading Dave Sculz's post a short time ago, it looks like they won't be attending). I left around 2:45...

This was the first airshow that I have ever left early.

Pros:
Good job with traffic
museum itself was very nice
great statics
weather was awesome
great performance from the Black Daggers (I only saw the first jump)

Cons:
all the cancellations/problems with the military and medical demos
$10/person entrance fee

While I would have gladly made a donation to the museum, I was rubbed the wrong way to pay a $10 entrance per person to only see 45 minutes of flying, followed by a 1 hour+ break, 45 minutes of flying, another 1 hours+ break then who knows what
I understand that that there're cancellations for mechanical/operational/other reasons, but what I don't like is not being aware of them and I don't like excessive filler.
If someone's not going to fly or show up, make an announcement (over a functional PA system) and condense the rest of the program.

That being said, the museum looked really great, and I would encourage everyone in the area to check it out at some point. The black daggers also looked really good; on the mass exit jump the first two jumpers did a really cool high speed (horizontally, not vertically) landing.

For all of you thinking of attending tomorrow, I hope you get as great weather as we had today and I hope the schedule Dave posted works out, but I'm not going to head back out there.
Crimeguy
The lack of participation by the military and a few others is something that can happen. It's unfortunate - but happens. Dave has always put together great airshows! Although I can't attend Sunday, I hope that all goes well.

Also, a traffic note, I'm not sure if it will be in effect today, but 100 South was closed at Rte 30 and a detour was in place. 202 south is the better route, at least today.

Almost forgot -

The military personnel that were with the statics were the friendlist that you'll find anywhere. They encouraged you to check out their aircraft and happy to talk about their jobs!

anyone up for PHL tomorrow? i know i will be there.. if there is no AH-64.. why even go? that is what i wanted sad.gif
Airboss
Unfortunately cancellations happen due to mechanicals. The Lakota from Ft. Polk was a last minute funding issue from the command for their extensive cross country. We found out about the Lakota on Thursday.

As for the schedules, Rotorfest has always (for the past 10 years) had a 45 minutes on, then 45 minutes off, type schedule in order to accommodate the flight school at the airport. These on again off again gaps are nothing unusual for this event.

Please remember that the $10 admission fee also gets you into the museum which is well worth the visit. This event is the annual anniversary celebration of the opening of the museum.

Sunday will feature the military flying much more as they will departing after their flybys and hoverwork.

I'm stuck at work for this one dry.gif But I'm going to try and listen in with the scanner just to get a little bit of air show in my day
PlaneBrain1JB
Agreed. Although since the AH-64 and the HH-65 from the USCG have cancelled, I decided to pass on this also and decided to go flying at N51 in a C-172. Beautiful day today to do just about anything rather. But to those who are at Rotorfest, be sure to continue sharing your pics. I'll be sure to check back again next year.

Well I just back home.. All I can say is that I had a great time.. Was my first time at Rotorfest.. I have come to the conclusion that its not always the content of the show that makes it a good show for me or not, its the airshow community that I meet there that helps make it a good show. This show definately had its problems (aircraft wise) but just to be able to meet up with all the ASB'ers there made this show just as good as all the other shows.

I will try to get my pics processed and uploaded soon..

A couple of my shots from today. Wish we had a little more flying, but still a good show.

Classic Holzinger greeting!

Don't get used to it!

Had a good day. Thanks to the Schultz crew of course, and the military and civilians who performed and put this all together. It was good seeing all the ASB people too, Steven, Dariusz, Jim, etc.
Here's some photos:

You don't often think of chopper shots in terms of panning... but:

Seahawk cockpit:

and the inside of the Sea Knight...would someone go to HomeDepot and get some panelling!:

The CH-46 demo was awesome! Never saw such a big machine kicking around like it did:

Of course, there's always a story to tell...
When world-famous noted photographer and historian Stan Piet talked me into running across the runway during the show, I didn't give a second thought to possibly being seen by authorities:

However, apparently one of the Schultz team was ready to nail us. This is the last thing I remember:

When I came to, another of the team was alerting authorities via cell phone:

Later, they laughed at our misfortune and apparently, a new cookie lady was born!

Here are some of my pics.. My sensor was really dirty so had alot of cleaning up to do sad.gif

Unfortunately I had to leave prior to the Apache arriving.. It would have been the highlight of my show but my brother had to go to work..

Did anyone catch Mike Durant this weekend at the show? They have a great museum here but I like one at the Cape May County Airport Avaition Museum also known as Naval Air Station Wildwood Avaiation Museum. You and your kids can climb on, in, under almost all of their displays. Click to view attachment

I really hope you two enjoyed this event. It is pretty small, but a lot of fun. Dave really knows how to make due with what he has. A consumate professional in my book!
Chris B.
I enjoyed meeting several ASB'ers on Saturday and Sunday. For me, the show was a little disappointing because the USCG helos had to bow out, but the weather was beautiful. I haven't been through all my shots but I know I got some good ones...

Beautiful weather, helicopters flying right in front of our lenses, many friends stopped and said hello, three Stooges with cameras ( Greg, Stan and Rich), fall colors, stunning RC choppers etc. - despite cancellations Dave and the Crew did a great job!

Man! If they have this show again next year...I'm gonna try real hard to go!

Wow!! What a great set of pics! I love the fall colors in the trees too. Really spices up the pics.

Hopefully Andrew D. and Chris A. won't mind having another guy in their corner!?

Great shots guys. Looks like that's a fantastic show they put on there.
