Yesterday (Fri) was media day and arrival day. AeroShell arrived through out the morning, which was cloudy with low ceilings. Falcon Field was still in the process of setting up for the airshow. Two F-18's belonging to the East Coast Demo team were already sitting on the ramp. Other warbirds arrived as the day went by and the weather improved. Some awesome aerobatic pilots will be flying Sat/Sun along with the East Coast Demo f-18 and F-16 teams. If you are in the area I encourage you to attend the show.

Unfortunately I have a commitment to Civil Air Patrol today but I look forward to seeing all of my local ASB friends in attendance Sunday.

The attached shot is a Marine Cobra arriving. Lots of moisture in the air. Very cool!

Shoot, I was over there all day long, didn't realize that was f4, or I would have said hi! You didn't happen to notice a 6'4" guy with a shaved head and a goatee over at that corner of the crowd line, did you?

Anyways, here are a few photos from today. It's too bad the lighting situation at FFC is so bad... makes aerial photos nearly impossible to get.

It was awesome having the Hornet taxi by like ten feet from me. Heck, I could have reached out and touched the wing had I wanted to.

Hornet warming up:

Making clouds:

Viper vapor:

Crazy Horse 2:

Heck, she's so sexy she gets two photos:

Sky Soldiers:

Greg Koontx and the harrier pass:

Red Eagles waiting to do their thing:

Unfortunately, I won't be back out tomorrow. I just made the day trip down from Chattanooga, didn't really want to deal with either staying overnight or making the three-hour motorcycle ride two days in a row.

Maybe I'll see some of you folks at Dobbins. I'm gonna try and make a whole weekend out of that...

I was only there Friday so I probably did not see you. The pics you have are great. Did the F-18 blow you away as it turned to the right when taxing out. It looks like you were in a bad place at the time. Cool pics though. tongue.gif

It was a great show. the busing was alot better this year too..I want to thank Jeff and his crew for all of their hospitality Saturday
Aviationbuff
Excellent shots guys!

Jeff Anderson, great work and thanks so much for the hospitality and information during the show. It was greatly appreciated.

By the way, I must say that along with the flying, the next best part of the GGAS is catching up with all of our Airshowbuzz friends. Terry, Carl, Travis, Don, Vance and everyone else, it was great seeing you, see you at the next show!

I will start uploading some shots over the next few days.

Well good morning from one tired Ramp Rat. First of it was sure great to see all the ASB folks there. Terry,Don,Chris,Carl, and Adam you all had some great photos. Im glad I could help you guys get some good ones. Oh and thanks Terry for NOT putting the shot of me quickly eating my Chick-fil-a sandwich on the home page of this site lol!. Gotta be real careful when your around ASB photogs. Sunday started out windyer than Saturday but just like Saturday as the day went on the wind died down a bit. The Aeroshell guys and Buck Roteman of the Red Eagle team told me the sky was full of BIG potholes Sunday. BTW folks. I cant put into words just how great the acts were for this show. The Aeroshell guys, The East coast demo team of the Hornet and F-16, The Sky Soldiers and all the others. Maybe yall wil think this is biased since they have appeared at soooo many Great Georgia Airshows but, The Red Eagle team is, in my estimation, probably the best civilian demo team around. Its hard to categorise them since they only fly two aircraft, but, when you talk about single demo folks like Sean Tucker and Patty Wagstaf, and Mike Goulian and folks like that. Well then the Red Eagles are the top of the laddder in two or more aircraft civilain demo teams to me. Sorry to make this such a long post but it was a GREAT weekend. Oh and I hope the ASB folks that got to ride on the C-54 enjoyed themselves Friday. Congratulations to you for getting to do that. THAT folks is another act that if you see them at a show you need to pay the money to go through andtake the tour of that aircraft. To tm and all the guys associated with the Berlin Airlift group. Thank you so much for coming to our show.
f4dskyray
A couple of things about the aircraft we had. Doug Mathews and his F4U Corsair was fantastic. Of course what a class guy and act Lee Louderback is with Crazy Horse2. Having Crazy Horse next to Red Nose and the Corsair was just a goregous site. The 4th MAW C-35 was a very nice addition this year. The C-35 is what the Marines call the Cessna Citation 5. I loved the paint job on it. The Red Dog squadron from HMLA773 was there with their Super Cobra. Then of course we had two UH-60 Blackhawks. One transport version out of Winder Georgia and the other a Medivac version out of Dobbins ARB. The crews on both of those were just great with the workers and most importantly the crowds. All of the Aerobatic folks had great looking planse and then of course the host unit had the aircrat from The dixie Wing of the CAF.
GUTTERbOY
The Red Eagles are definitely one of my favorite acts. I've seen them quite a few over the past several years, and they never fail to disappoint. I'll get to see them again next weekend at Dobbins!
Aviationbuff
Here are a few of my pics from the 2008 Great Georgia Airshow. I had a great time and enjoyed the variety of aircraft. Viper East, Hornet East, Aeroshell, Red Eagle Airsports, both a Heritage and Legacy flight...something for everybody!

Aviationbuff
Thanks Vance. It was good to see you.

By the way, I hear that Aluminum Overcast will be at Gwinnet at the same time as the Wings over Marietta Show...why do they do that!

Sorry I only got to talk with you for a little while, I had no idea that we would be set up in that corner for so long!

Chris

I was fortunate enough to fly in the C-54 "Candy Bomber" Friday morning. I was surprised at how quiet the airplane was. I have attached a shot of the crew chief right at the moment of release.
heritagephotos
First of all, Vance, it was great meeting you. Second of all, I really want a bigger lens than my 70-200 2.8 but that's ok, I will deal with that one. The show was great as always. I will try and post a few of my favorites later tomorrow.

Hey Don. Great meeting you. The ride on the C-54 was fun and I had the same thought about how quiet it was. You would thing a big 4 engine radial bahemith would be noiser than it was. Great times, see you at the next show but not Dobbins. Two small kids and many hours of traffic along with 200,000 people trying to get on the same bus are not a good mix for me. Have fun. smile.gif

I'm sorry Don....I didn't mean to give the impression that the Black Cat was mine...It is just a favorite of mine. I met Charlie, the pilot, several years ago at this airshow and became friends. Tried to get a ride with him whenever he was at the show. He has since sold the airplane. Mike

Mike,

My bad. I guess I tried to read between the lines. I actually thought you were Charlie. I got some pretty good photos of his PBY at last years show. Hopefully whoever bought it will fly it in the SE USA. Are you going to be at Dobbins tomorrow? Take care.

Vance1
Nice work under bad conditions Mike, Carl and good to see Travis posting.

Instructor "Bob" looses his student "Clem" AKA Greg Koontz!
BlackCatPBY
No, I won't be going to Dobbins this weekend. Jeff and I tried to get a hookup to work the show but it never materialized. I live on the SE side of town, and after last week's GGAS all 3 days, I am going to take a break. Hate to miss this one, but got to. I will have to work Sunday.

Yall have a great time and I know that some great pictures will show up here somehow.

Mike

I thought I'd post a few more from The Great GA Airshow:

C-54 Departing Sunday.

Clem AKA Greg Koontz trying to figure out where to redeem his certificate for "one 'o dem aeroplane rides".

Cobras with Glowing Smoke

Delta Pink 767 Dirty Pass

F-18 East Coast Demo is on the Go

Terry Wood Jr.
Very Nice pics Don. I smile when I see Clem. Their act is always a joy to watch.
f4dskyray
I agree Terry. I think that now that Charlie Culp has retired, Gregs show is a perfect replacemnt for a comedy act on the airshow scene.
