I attempted to post earlier but had a glitch on the internet access here in Salinas. Ugh...
Saturday's show went off without a hitch, as you can see from Keith's pictures. Sunday's show, however, was plagued with a "marine layer" that forced a number of the performers to do low or flat shows. That was certainly unfortunate because the Thunderbirds had to cancel completely because of those low clouds. They hung in at about 1000'; the Thunderbirds require 2000' cloud clearance from the ground to the base of the clouds.
Still, the Super Hornet and Strike Eagle did get to do high shows before the clouds came in. The Rhino had the most AMAZING vapor cloud around it during the high speed pass. It was visible as a circle around it from more than a mile out and continued throughout the pass. It was AWESOME. We were able to coax "Fid" into doing another high-speed pass at the end of the demo but it wasn't quite as good. I hope someone got a shot of it.
It was a great weekend in Salinas for the 28th annual California Air Show. Congratulations to all who put it together, including Harry Wardwell, Cindy Farrell, Gale Rawitzer, Kathy Eby, and ALL the volunteers who worked their tails off to make it a great event. Thanks, too, to KSBY's chief meteorologist, Jim Vanderzwaan for his great work as co-announcer. It was a treat!
