Great show. Great weather (no haze, light NW breeze). I started out at the CNE waterfront, then moved to Humber Bay park.
Heritage Flight was terrific!! T-38s were good, but a little conservative (2 passes). Mike Wiskus - awesome show down to the deck. Julie Clark - simply one of the best.
Overall, a nice, tight show. Kudos to the team (BTW, nice touch of naming all the volunteers in the Air Show magazine!)
Can anyone tell me the name of this year's Air Show commentators? (I know Stu Holloway and Bill McBride did the show for years).

The first day is over and one certainly couldn't ask for better weather!
Alright, so the show runs from 1300-1600 and it actually finished 15 minutes early. We got only 2 passes from the Talons and the C-130. With that extra time (granted we didn't have the Globemaster today) we should at least get 3 more passes from both - anyone else think the same??
The highlight for me was definitely the CL415's! The waterbombing demo was awesome

The one photog from some media outlet bickered that they actually stayed so long - what a dusch...

I felt like the Snowbirds were performing for another airshow today as they were so far from the crowd line. I very seldom post anything negative about a show but I felt all acts were laid back as if they were cautioned to keep quiet and don’t disturb the city today. The Talons must have been over 1,000ft on both passes. With that said the water bombers rocked the place and I could not get enough of them. The Heritage Flight was close and tight as well. When an Aurora can’t fill the frame with a 400mm lens you know it is way out from the crowd line. I have been attending the CNE airshow for over 30 years and I have to say it felt real different today.

I agree, Clubber. Would have liked to see more passes from the Talons. I did, however, have a GREAT time thanks to a friend!
Didn't really miss the C17 much since I see it every day. The Water Bombers and the bucket carrying helicopter were really cool. Julie Clark was awesome too. Well, everyone was awesome. I can't complain. I think that the organizers did a great job for what they had and the performers stepped it up a notch and I got my picture taken with Billy! I missed something at the end when they were talking about the Snowbirds and a fuel problem. What was that about?
Here's some pics.

I heard the Snowbirds had to knock it off early because they were low on fuel. As well, the F-16 from what I could hear on the radio could not talk to YYZ. Had a problem changing frequencies? I also heard the C-17 was called to duty and if we are lucky we may see him Monday.

Awesome shots, guys!
Eric, your water bomber shots are bad ass! I haven't seen them since I was about 10 years old!
I was in Etobicoke playing baseball today and the Snowbirds flew right overhead, it was sweet.

I saw the show from both the CNE waterfront and Humber Bay Park, and I must admit the high-speed show was closer at the park. The acts turned directly over head: I swear I could see the flight deck of the Aurora. Also, since the sun is not in your eyes at the park, the planes were not just silhouettes.
The downside of the park: the CL-415s were keeping closer to the CNE, and the civilian acts were farther away.
Nice photos, folks!

Just got back from Pearson. Only saw the CF-18 do a fly over runway 33. I was parked at 15L. There was also a KC-135 from the 916th ARW parked where all the other airshow aircraft parked. They were getting ready to start their engines at around 4ish. Did they perform today at the show?

Some great shots, people! The waterbombing demo, judging from the pics, looks quite impressive. It's kinda cool when airshows showcase working aviation - you get a much broader sense of how airplanes help us all out in positive and productive ways.

Sonic boom? If your ears didn't start to bleed and the windows from EVERYTHING around you didn't shatter - there was no sonic boom...Top speed for demos is 0.94 Mach. Billy was hauling a$$ on his final pass, but no 'boom' - thank heavans!
The 135 was supposedly bringing a few dignitaries up to the show - no it didn't fly.

Thanks Adrian for the info about the 135. You weren't happened to be hanging around the Skyservice building where the 135 and other aircraft were parked between 3:30 and 4 today were you? There was a guy there today when I was there, and looking at your avatar, I see a resemblence! LOL I wonder....

Ugh!!! finally a beautiful weekend for an Ontario air show and here I am working (yes, actually stuck at home making money) and I'm only a 3 and a half hour drive away from TO - damn, damn, damn - my head has been shaking since yesterday afternoon. Client drove down (yes - away from CIAS) to work on the book (not like I could realistically move the book layout to TO for a couple days).
Lovin' the 409 Nighthawk tail paint!!

Hi Dan - nope I was nowhere near YYZ. I was enjoying all the action at the waterfront

I heard yesterday that the Knighthawk tail from Cold Lake was in town...Bruno, nice catches out by the airport; looks like they made some nice flyovers! You definitely got a closer look at the Talons than we did, haha!! The Antonov is a nice touch too!
For those of you who were at the waterfront - how did you like the Mig-15 as a preview? That is one sweet looking plane, even as a silhouette!!

Ah ok Adrian. I didn't want to say to the guy "Hey Adrian!" And then look like an idiot if it wasen't you!
Bruno, were you on 15L when the Hornet did her fly-by? That was a sweet fly-by! Too bad I couldn't ID you. I was with my dad and sister in a Blue Chevy Malibu.
Funny how close you are to some guys you chat with on ASB and don't even know it!

Thank you to all the organizers and volunteers for putting on another great CIAS!
I went on the Saturday. My favourite acts were the CF-18, F-16, Mike Wiskus, and the Water Bombers. The T-38s were cool to see, but they could have been closer. As some other people have mentioned up thread, the Snowbirds performance seemed a little farther than what I'm used to. The Water Bombers demo was very cool. It's not something you see very often.
I'm really looking forward to next year!

About a half hour before show time Jeff Lewis made a few passes in his MiG-15. He was pretty high and quiet.

Mixture of some pics from Saturday at Ontario Place and Sunday along the Lakeshore.....
Ah ok. I was wondering how you got that shot of the CF-18. I saw it do its fly-by before landing, and I figure that's where you got the shot, becasue after he flew over, he banked right and the underside was facing me on 15L.
We got to YYZ a bit late (around 1:20) and only got to catch the CF-18 landing, Aurora, and Snowbirds.
I guess the Herc, Viper and Talons went up REALLY early on in the show. I was bummed lol.

Hi all, last show of the season for me. Quite pleased, a lil perplexed, but quite pleased overall. Can't ask for better weather!! Watched from the CNE on Sunday and the beach on Lakeshoe Monday. Gonna do that every year. It gives you two completely different perspectives, both great and both close. Just gotta find an adults only beach. I can't believe how desensitized kids are these days. When an F-18 does a low pass right over us and all the lil dimwits care about is finding pop caps in the water... But I digress. I'm really starting to love the Harvards. What a beautiful show they put on! The talons was a massive waste of time and fuel. Maybe someone can explain to me why they fly all the way there, stay for three days and do two stinkin' 10,000 ft passes. I'm at a loss. I was so looking forward to seeing that plane, and I hardly saw it at all. Anyhoo, I shed a tear on the Snowbirds last pass as it was the last pass of the year for me. They ended the year off perfectly for me!! Thay really are fantastic considering what they're flying and what they're up against. I'd take them any day over the Thunderbirds. No offence to anyone of course. Just a very proud Canadian!!! Happy Labour day to all and thanks to everyone that made this a fantastic and memorable weekend. Now back to labouring...

As far as the T-38's go, sometimes things are offered as part of a mission and or at a great price/rate. Even though it may not be a full demo, it is airplanes in the air. I find it great that most people have a wish list for their favourite airshow, but at the end of the day are more than happy to see any airplane in the air. Then there are those who have no issue voicing how an airshow should spend their money. I suggest that if they don't like what is appearing that they ante up their own money and become a sponsor.....thank goodness there are not many individuals like that out here on the buzz. I actually heard someone say "what kind of plane is that, Ive never seen one before...that was small and neat" That right there was worth the price of the fuel!!! Thanks T-38's for comming.. nice to see you, and by the way you are a great bunch of guys and very proffessional!!
Cheers

I meant no disrespect to the Talon pilots or crew and I do not want to come across as a downer. Believe me, ANY bird in flight is a beautiful sight to behold IMO. I greatly appreciate everything that goes into any air show and try to support it as much as I can. I'm just puzzled as to why the Talons could not fly a little lower/closer or a lil longer. Last time I saw that plane in flight was in the 80's and I've always had a bit of a crush on it. I was really looking forward to seeing their performance, but nonetheless like you said Firefly61, at least I saw them fly. It's strange for me with air shows. I think sometimes I build up my expectations too high and get mildly disappointed at times. Now if I was just out on the street and two Talons flew over at 20,000 feet I'd probably wet myself. I love the randomness of it. But after driving six hours frothing at the mouth to see them, I can't help but be a tiny bit disappointed. But I NEVER leave a show with negative feelings. Those guys (crew, pilots, organizers) are my heroes and I hold them in very high regard. I am now going through a "mourning" period as that was (probably ;-)) my last show of the year. My girlfriend has heard enough jets for now, and any more I might be single again. I guess ASB and Youtube will get me through a looooong cold winter. I live in Montreal by the way. Thanks for your sympathies. I'm out for now.

You remind me of what it was like to watch the arrivals at the old London Airshow. I'd be out on Creamery Rd every Thursday and Friday before the show, just itching in anticipation. You never know what or when something is coming in, and that I find can be more exciting than the show itself. It's more of a surprise that way.

First off, to answer the question on why the T-38's flew their display at higher altitude...The Wing Commander has the biggest voice usually and basically tells them what they can and cannot do when they go to an airshow and perform flyby's etc...If there were an actual runway, they may have been able to do a few missed approaches, but, rules are rules and these students don't want to end their careers before they've started...
As for noise complaints - the Saturday show (which was the loudest over the weekend) only mounted to about 6 calls in total. Apparently it's the SAME people year in and year out that can be counted on to make the phonecalls...No real surprise and believe me, not ONE of the tens of thousands of people who watch the show care what they think

Thanks for the explanation. I know it's a trainer, but I didn't realize they were students flying. I guess it's part of their training? That makes more sense now. They're a heck of a lot better than student drivers. Keep up the good work boys 'n girls.
