According to Flightaware it says a Lancaster arrived at Oshkosh today. Is that true?
NAA51WB
Yup that has to be CWH Lancaster!!! That is awesome!!!

Hey Spooky where would be a good place at Aeroshell square to meet up for everyone or is there the Aeroshell logo painted on the concrete because I was thinking after the airshow we could have everyone meet up on the aeroshell emblem and we could figure out a group shot from there.

The Aeroshell emblem sounds great. Does everyone know where it is? What day? Friday or Saturday? Give a holler what days you'll be there. We could always meet up a couple times like Monday or Tuesday and then later in the week so nobody gets left out. Before or after the show would probably be fine as well.

To Bad he won't tell the real story behind this B-Model Mustang and refuse to even talk to the family of the brave pilot who was lost in the plane after sayin ghe would have some sort of plaque with the history of Dean and the plane.

Beside it really a replica anyway there isn't any REAL B-model out their.

Nate,

On Flightaware it says LANC's C-FXTZ and N401BB arrived on sunday. I looked em up and they are both Lancairs. No idea why when you hover on it it says Lancaster, but they are both Lancairs.

Yes they are both replica's of a B-model Mustang Session aircraft least has around 20% of the original build into it. While Rouch aircraft has less then 10%. Neither of them should be allowed to be part of the Warbird Judging Comp.

I would really like to see the EAA step up set up another cat. for replica warbirds. But then again the EAA really doesn't get it at times either.

Come on, dont use this board as a flame against these people. There are several Mustangs out there which aren't original builds. Frankly, I'd rather see what you call "replica" B models (to which I dispute) in the air and flying than letting them sit in a wreck in Florida.

You must tell me where you've seen a 100% original warbird.

I guess almost all of the antique airplanes shouldn't be judged as well since they don't have the original fabric, flying wires, radios and the like. There isn't one Mustang out there I bet that is flying with its original engine or have all of its original panels on it. Even if someone found a Mustang in a barn somewhere that had been untouched since 1945 the restoration process would still involve replacing panels, control wires, fabric and so on. There is a little thing called corrosion and it eats away at metal so replacing panels is necessary. I really hope that either "Happy Jacks Go Buggy" or "Impatient Virgin" wins the big award.

On that first video there,...
1) Whoa, a 4 ship Legacy, awesome!
2) Why in the world are they useing the Heritage Flight song? I always found that an USAF thing.

Your correct almost every Warbird has had something new add to it but they still retand atleast most of the original airframe. When I owned my Tiger Moth it was a build up of three different airframes and I made note of this in the display that I had with it when I took it to Airshows. My problem with all of the B/C Mustang out their that all these are Data plate rebuilds using a Data plate and building up a brand new aircraft sort of like the Late Gerry Becks replica Mustang. Of the three "New" B/C model out their Old Crow,Impatiant Virgina, and Collings Foundations aircraft none of them have more then 20% of the original aircraft in them. In my book and even what the EAA cite these are replicas and should be judge as such.

Also I have a problem with Old Crow being display as Old Crow considering the history of the aircraft and the pilot involved and certain promise made to the family by Rousch to the family.
Flyin Illini
Im not a EAA official, but if it looks like a mustang, it sounds like a mustang. Its a mustang to me.
RockyController
Anybody have any Phantom shots?
Rhino18
Is the Super Hornet still flying Legacy Flights through the weekend?? Also is the Harrier performing through the weekend also??

Thanks,

So in your eye then the following aircraft are the "REAL" thing then correct,

The Vimmy Replica(They used parts of the original in it)
Nate Mayos P-26D(Has ome real Peashooter parts in it)
Thomas Crowder P-12(Was build up using original plane and engine and some cockpit items)
Vintage Aviation Service SPAD XIII and DrI (both have original WWII items and engine in them)
Planes of Fame/Weeks Air Museum F3F-2 (basically three data plates and less then 10 % of parts from four crash sites)

I can go if you like but I think you get the point all of these look like the "REAL" thing but in reality they are new build/replicas and should be noted as this.

And to futher my comments if I was to take the 10 different combat data plates that I have recovered from various crash site and filed the proper paper work wit the FAA then would they be a "REAL" B-17F,B-24D,P-38E(2),F4F-1,SB2C-2,SNJ-1(3) along with the parts that I also recovered with amounts for each data plate around 10% of each wreck then what would you call them. I would call them a replica because that is what the Smithsonian and the EAA call it.
Jim Beasley
You have no idea what you are talking about, and frankly you sound more sour grapes than anything. Why don't you knock it off already. Jim Beasley

Easy guys, I for one am thankful for people with the cash and the drive to build a rare airplane from data plates. We are seeing aircraft today that we only saw old photos of 20 yrs. ago. Speaking of photos, can we lowly ones who were unable to go ot OSH see some more on this forum? Pleeeeezzz?

oh, would you please? I think there are some of us here who would rather read about OSHKOSH and see some pictures than listen to whining about what is "real" and what isnt. how "real" a warbird is, is not that big of a deal. like others have said, if it flies and makes noise, then it is alright in my book.

and besides....Mr. Beasley himself, P-51 pilot, even has had enough. time for you to pack your bags to another thread buddy.

now.....WHERE ARE THE OSHKOSH PICS!!!
spookythecat
Due to the looooong days and slow computer i'm not getting anywhere near as many pictures on here as i'd hoped. here are a few more though.
