Im not a EAA official, but if it looks like a mustang, it sounds like a mustang. Its a mustang to me.
So in your eye then the following aircraft are the "REAL" thing then correct,
The Vimmy Replica(They used parts of the original in it)
Nate Mayos P-26D(Has ome real Peashooter parts in it)
Thomas Crowder P-12(Was build up using original plane and engine and some cockpit items)
Vintage Aviation Service SPAD XIII and DrI (both have original WWII items and engine in them)
Planes of Fame/Weeks Air Museum F3F-2 (basically three data plates and less then 10 % of parts from four crash sites)
I can go if you like but I think you get the point all of these look like the "REAL" thing but in reality they are new build/replicas and should be noted as this.
And to futher my comments if I was to take the 10 different combat data plates that I have recovered from various crash site and filed the proper paper work wit the FAA then would they be a "REAL" B-17F,B-24D,P-38E(2),F4F-1,SB2C-2,SNJ-1(3) along with the parts that I also recovered with amounts for each data plate around 10% of each wreck then what would you call them. I would call them a replica because that is what the Smithsonian and the EAA call it.
