The show was great! A ton of static aircraft (no HH-60G though sad.gif ). The weather was great Saturday, and pretty good Sunday...for Anchorage. The Raptor and Viper solo demos were phenomenal. Thunderbirds were great too. I think there were almost 100,000 people in attendance on Saturday, that's 1/5 of our state population! I'm looking forward to 2010, and the next Arctic Thunder. Maybe they'll have a pavehawk, if they're not deployed again!

Just wanted to post quickly about Arctic Thunder 2008. This was my first visit to AK and the airshow was a fantastic way to wrap the week up. Elmendorf puts on a class act show. TONS of static stuff. I think they had everything the Air Force can offer except the U-2, B-1B, B-2, E-4 and E-8 (not counting the presidential fleet). I met a couple of ASBers from Front Royal VA (whose names escape me). The announcer, "Jughead", did an outstanding job. He gave AirShowBuzz.com SEVERAL plugs. The flying show was great. The Pacific Forces Viper Demo Team did a great job. The C-17 demo from Elmendorf was great. "Max" Moga in the Raptor was breathtaking as usual. The Joint Forces demo was outstanding. It included two Eagles, one Raptor, one Globemaster III, two Hercules, and two Blackhawks. Great job by those guys. The flying that impressed me the most was the "Unusual Attitudes" demo by Marcus Paine in the Super Decathalon. This guy could really fly!! I am totally impressed! If you get a chance to see this guy, go see him. I will try to post some pics later when I have time to edit them up a little.

Kenny & I just returned from Arctic Thunder and a mini-vacation of other parts of the beautiful state of Alaska! Tony pretty much hit the nail on the head with the review, particularly with the static displays. The ramp was packed with visitors near & far, including two "agressor" F-16s from Eielson AFB, a Canadian F/A-18 D Hornet and two refuelers from McGuire AFB. All of the demos were great. Though I'm partial to military jets, the civilian performers were all outstanding. I'm hoping to have my photos and videos up this weekend, including the F-22 Raptor demo from a couple of unique vantage points wink.gif

Cheers!

Great photos! Just a quick correction on the CF-18.....it's actually a B model hornet. We here in Canada don't fly the C or D model Hornet at all. Actually, one of the techs that was with that Hornet is a friend of mine. He's assigned to 410 "Cougar" Squadron, which the CF-188B is assigned.

Looks like a great air show....I'm getting antsy waiting to go to an air show this year!

Thanks for the clarification and squadron details! The guys were very nice and took the time to answer every question that was asked. Guess I should have asked them which model it was ohmy.gif

Just wondering what was the show runway?

The eastern 3000' of Runway 06/24 are directly in front of the main spectator area.
