Sure was nice to see so many ASBers today! We had a few pictures taken and got to speak with folks for a while.
I REALLY enjoyed the show today. Max's Raptor demo was excellent and his tail slide may have been the best of all I've seen. We spoke tonight and he said that he wasn't happy with some of the maneuvers but was very pleased with the tail slide. It all just worked out right for him.
I love the Andrews show but as an announcer it's a tough venue because the air boss is in the tower, about a half-mile away. I have always felt more comfortable with the boss right next to me, with the ability to work out details immediately. Still, working with A1C Christine Sabotta, who had radio communication with the tower, was certainly OK! She did a great job relaying information to and from Wayne Boggs and Sgt. Nate Brewer in the tower.
I feel badly for those who had to wait in line so long for the buses to Fedex Field and the Branch Ave. Metro station. I saw those lines and couldn't believe how long they were. Unfortunately, there's not near enough space to park cars on base - well, there is, but the security of that base is paramount and having tens of thousands of vehicles on that base is unacceptable to those in control. My guess is that the Secret Service pulls the strings.
Even the pilots are advised that they are NOT allowed to overfly the Presidential hangar.
It was really good to finally see the Starfighters! The sound of the three jets flying over the crowd on their first pass was wonderful!
Sean & Eric Tucker performed, Greg Poe, John Klatt, Bill Braak in the Air Force Reserve jet car, the Strike Eagle team, Jill "Raggz" Long, the Red Bull Air Force, Golden Knights, Paul McCowan (who jumped in that 5000 sq ft American flag, the Blues, and everyone else did a great job.
The ABC affiliate just reported that 400,000 people were there!!
Holy cow, that's amazing!
Hope we have a good crowd tomorrow.
Regards,
Rob

As a normally quiet member of the group, I have to vent! This morning all went smooth and quickly at Branch Ave. I was impressed with the setup at Andrews this year as most of the flying acts were parked out of the way, giving you a mostly unobstructed view of the runway.
However, the first thing you will quickly notice is that there were almost NO trash cans and certainly none on the flight line fence. By the end of the day all sorts of trash were against the fence AND BLOWING onto the taxiway.
Getting back to Branch Ave was a disaster to say the least. The show ended by about 4:30 and the lines for the Branch Ave bus streched almost 1/2 the field. We did walk around a while and the line only grew - instead of shrinking.
They FINALLY brought in some reinforcement buses from FEDEX field. However, they got lost on the way. A convoy of buses went for a tour AROUND Andrews only to arrive at the FEDEX side about 25 minutes later.
We pulled into the Branch Ave station just after 7 pm. I'm patient, but that was unacceptable.
All of those factors - coupled with the fact that I was surrounded by some of the rudest people who didn't respect anybody's space - it was a challenging day.
For those brave enough to attend Sunday - here's some tips. If you are at airshow right and get there when the doors open - beware - Look and see if the speakers are up, if they aren't wait until they place them before you get situated. Also, in front of the F-22's they put up a blue canopy that wasn't up first thing.
If your going to go show right, I'd say go up further toward the Blues and a little to the right of the huge speaker. Also, show left filled up VERY quickly!
