To Ed and ASB,
i was just wondering if you guys had ever thought about adding a chatroom to airshowbuzz, and members thoughts on the idea. i just think having a live chat where members, fans, performers, and others in the industry could come in and talk to each other about all things airshows would be huge. i do understand it may involve doing some work to the site, having a moderator on there, etc etc, but i thought id throw the idea out there.
Jay
*if this has already been discussed on asb, i apologize in advance for not being able to find it and posting this.

A general chat forum is a good idea but with caveats. This is my offering on a previous thread that I think is still valid....

I can see where people may want to chat if a show is in streaming video and they're at home watching.
We had one on Fence Check for a while. After about a month, no one used it.

Kinda against a chat, because I think if the chat took off the threads would disappear. It is hard to come in the middle of a chat, and figure out what everyone is talking about. Going to leave this idea in my I don't know bin

I think I'm with Jim on this in the "I don't know area" Those of us who do "chat" have given each other our IM accounts, and talk that way about "stuff" It is then a personal decision. Yes, there might be times that I can see why people would want a chat room, however, since it wasn't utilized on FC and Liza you can correct me if I'm wrong here, I think ICAS had one too, which wasn't used right before the forums site was close also, it would appear to me that history shows it's not a valid function. I think it would be something else for the Mods to "watch over" and possibly not always a friendly one either. I think just leaving the forums up is the way to go.
But of course, it's only my 2 cents.......... ( in the morning no less!!!! )

We discussed the idea of a chat room when we originally created the site and it was nixed by not only the staff but all the "experts" we consulted. Chat rooms are fraught with huge problems given that we have a fairly large amount of users under the age of 18.
That's not to say we won't use them with live webcasts where it's a limited one time event, but I do not anticipate incorporating them into this current or future versions of the site.

Deb, a suggestion, will the ASB staff be cleaning up the boards when we approach the 1 year anniversary of ASB? IE: Removing old threads, etc.

I reject with you 4444, Lots of valuble information around here, and all threads should stay.
