OK, I’ll get the ball rolling with a review of this show.

Overall, this was a good show. Both the good and bad parts are listed here.

The good:

1. Great Weather. Yes, the sun angles were poor for photo’s after about 2:00 pm, but the clear skies and moderate temps made for a perfect day weather-wise.
2. Friendly people. Overall, the personnel at Holloman were very courtyous and helpful.
3. The F-22 was impressive in it’s display and was one of the highlights.
4. The Holloman legacy flight was wonderful. The sight of the F-4, F-15, F-117 and F-22 in formation will not soon be forgotten.
5. The Border Patrol Blackhawk demo was a welcome addition to the display.
6. Good emphasis of the F-117 and the taxiing of the aircraft by the crowdline was great.

The bad.

1. Logistics. On Saturday, we were detained on the bus for one hour due to an impending X-Prize launch (or so we were told after asking the driver). Consequently we did not get on the static area until almost 10:00 am.
2. The bus driver dropped us off at the wrong spot (midway down the static display area, rather than at the south end). The driver indicated this was where he would be picking us up at the end of the day. Well, at the end of the day, we saw no buses in the area. We eventually were told to go to the south end. As a result, we just made getting the last bus back to the car at 6:10 pm. We really had to hustle to make it.
3. The “water buffalos” were not really accessable in the static aircraft area. We are not sure why most of them were in the parking area. Again, $3.00 bottles of water is something I’ll never get used to.
4. The cancellation of the German Tornado flying display. We heard from one of the crews of the static aircraft that there was a last minute “political decision” made not to fly during the airshow. That figures.
5. The multiship F-117 attack profile took place with 3 aircraft on Saturday and 2 aircraft on Sunday. This was a bit of disappointment since the 4 ship was advertised. I mean it’s hard to believe 4 aircraft could not be made available to fly. Nonetheless, it was a neat demonstration of their attack profile.

I thought it was a good air show for its size. The weather was perfect (except now I have raccoon eyes). It has been a while since I have attended shows, so it was nice to see some old friends from the circuit. If there was something to complain about was the space stuff, seemed to really slow the show down for a few hours. And I thought our aircraft were unreliable at times. laugh.gif biggrin.gif

From a performers perspective, Holloman ran an excellent event. We were all treated with the greatest of courtesy.
The X-Prize segment certainly did experience some problems but these are simply the growing pains of a new form of flight which Holloman vallianlty attempted to bring to the general public by incorporating it in their event. They tried something new and exciting and I , for one, applaud their attempt to bring space exploration to the airshow audience. Quite a few participants backed out from the competition at the last moment. This was beyond the producers ability to control.
We had an awesome time at Holloman and would return in a heartbeat. It is truly the friendliest place on earth.

Oh no, don't tkae me wrong. The lunar landing hovering was definitely cool to see as well as the rockets blasting skyward. And I have to agree with Carol the people at the show were awesome.

Great show!! The wing walking took us by surprise and I rushed to get my camera ready & did manage to get a few shots of Carol and crew! Great performers!! Truly enjoyed Holloman and the 6 hr drive from Phoenix was easily worth it. Took over 10 GB of photos...next I'll be needing a new PC due to all of these airshow shots smile.gif Nellis next week...

Awesome pictures as always Shamu, do you know yet if there is going to be a Phantom West & East in 2008?
Raptorguy
Just wondering, will the F-117 be in the Air show Circuit at all during the 2008 season?

Surprise! Sorry that we made you scramble. This is the first time in my history that we have been the opening act for a show. The early morning weather was quite chilly for wingwalking but the temperature certainly helped the A/C perform better. The shots you caught are great but I couldn't help but giggle a bit. I lost my head gear and goggles early in the flight and kept messing with them for the entire sequence. You caught a pretty good shot of my wardrobe malfunction.

Thanks Jim, but the combat photographer deserves the credit, he took the pictures from the chase T-38, I just led the formation around the Tularosa Basin. Yes, there will be a Phantom West & East for 2008. Aviation Nation will be my last air show before retiring early next year (not a bad way to fade away).

here are a few of mine. I'll start off with some photo pass shots.........thanks Shamu for the great flybys! I was pretty happy with this show, my only critique would be to have had the Heritage Flight flown a bit earlier for better light.........

This is the Det's Robin Olds dedicated F-4 Heritage painted jet (QF-4E AF-310) I flew on Saturday. The left forward nose art is setup similar to the F-4 at the USAF Museum except we have four MiG kills decaled on the left splitter. She will be at Nellis this weekend.

Rob,

Don't feel too bad, he told me the same thing when I asked him the same question a few months back when he was here @ Tyndall.
