MISSION UPDATE

Today's flight will be scrubbed due to weather. Originally, this was a maintenance day so the team will use it accordingly. The next brief time will be tomorrow at 0800 local. Keep in mind the next leg is nearly all over water so the weather conditions must improve before they can launch.

Holy Cow! WHAT A DAY! We made it to Goose Bay.... horrible weather... a lot of dodging... but we made it. If you watched us on the tracking... all the circles were because of the Tstorms. Here are some pics of the day. All the legs from here on are ocean, icebergs, and glaciers.

Keep the team in your thoughts.

Cheers
Shipley

Hey Ed. Good morning to you! Glad you guys made it okay. Just wanted to say my Uncle, William Graham was one of the rescue that located the pilots. He was stationed in Greenland during WW2, and that was his job, to rescue pilots. Also, say Hi to Bob. A lot of this episode in History was possible because of his determination and perseverance. Haven't seen him in a while. Tell him Marty said hi!! Take care and God's Speed!!!

Drano.....

One of the things I'm learning about this trip is our technology lets us know where we are, but the constantly changing weather just screws everything up. In some ways I'm not too sure that we don't have the same issues that they had back then. All the GPS does is let you know exactly where you are in trouble.

Shipley

PS.... Makes me admire what those kids did back then... even more.

Great pics. Bob looks a little fried, but the rest look okay considering flight track.

Gotta love that GPS and better weather forecasts, for sure makes you appreciate what those guys went through and they were far less experienced than you guys.

Best wishes for today. Take care.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the updates they have been fascinating

I've been following the Glacier Girl saga since a Popular Mechanics article back in the 80s. By sheer luck I will be flying to CYYR tomorrow on business. On the off chance the aircraft will still be prepping on the ground late in the morning what FBO are they located at as I am looking forward to at least getting a few shots through the fence???

cheers

Deb,

Thanks for your efforts to get us access at Teterboro. The heightened security concerns are understandable, but quite often regrettable.

Thanks all for the great pics and info.

Cheers,

What an inspiring initiative to showcase the sacrifices and heroism of a group that would otherwise be little more than a footnote in the history of aviation. I've been lurking for weeks, but -- as the mission progresses -- I wanted to add my thanks and congratulations to Ed, Deb, Steve and the entire OB team. Have fun and fly safely.

That was John Hinton in the back. Here are some shots that John Dibbs took of the team before and after we landed at Goose Bay... he was right there at the moment that Steve and I shook hands after the formation IMC landing. Also a nice shot of Rod Lewis who got us all down.

Once again... many thanks to John Dibbs. I've been looking at all the pics he's been taking. Trust me he's holding back. His book is going to be wonderful

From the bleachers: Thanks for the updates, I was online when Ed was posting so some of us are getting rather addicted. Now if I could only get back to work... Good luck tomorrow everyone, the weather window looks pretty narrow for Tuesday.

A few more pics.... Our hotel.... a sign that lets you know what winter is like.... Rod Lewis working on his Lightning.... John Hinton watching after Velma... and a shot of the girls together. Tonight we are all eating at a little place down the road (you have to order your steaks two hours ahead of time so they can thaw them out!)... then an early nights rest... 8a weather brief tomorrow... and then....??? Well see what happens... you will too.

Cheers

Hi Ed and Steve,

If you have time could you please post a photo of the artwork on your drop tanks.

Also I noted that you guys had all the cowling's off the Mustang is this stander practice our was this a pre-caution thing to make sure you didn't have any leaks.

Also I'm not sure if you answer this one yet but do the Turbo work on the 38 and if so do you plan on using them at any time on the flight.

Far Winds and God Speed.
