Hanging out at Planes of Fame. Heritage Flight was awesome...Steve Hinton flew lead in P-38. To my left is Chuck Hall who flew the P51, Slammer to my right, and Jewel who flew the F-15 E and fixed my GPS so that I could get back to BH! Thanks Jewel.

There were two incidents over the weekend at the Chino show. Saturday, the B-17 "Fuddy Duddy" apparently had a bird strike, and the leading edge of the right wing was damaged (photo posted here), and during Sunday's show, the POF F-86 lost a wing tank while in flight, with (according to a witness' report) it being found about 100 yards from where the F-18s were parked.

Wow - TWO Real Zeros/Zekes in the air at the same time!

Chino looks like it was a GREAT show - I have got to get there sometime. All those P-38s, the F3F, the Skyraider, the F-86F and T-33 (I really like the T-33 a lot better with the tip tanks, though) and a bunch of other airplanes.

I was there at Saturday's air show... unbelievable. 3 P-38's together, 28 warbirds in the airpower flyover (4 B-25's), an AWESOME F/A-18C Demo (those guys from VFA-125 have really jazzed up their routine), F-15E / P-38 / P-51 Heritage Flight, an Awesome Sea Fury Demo (very low flying), the King Cobra in flight, and many many more. I'll let those who took pictures take it from here... what a weekend.

*Also, for those of you who have not been to the Planes of Fame Museum, it is very much worth a trip. First class to say the least.

I was there Saturday as well and to be honest I was very disappointed with the F/A-18 demo. First off it was advertised that it was going to be the super hornet and it ended up being the C model. The demo for me was lacking something. There was very poor narration, no music(which i personally enjoy), and a decent demo of the aircraft. However the F-15E strike eagle demo was awesome. They did an great job all the way around. From the music, heritage flight, and the demo I was glad i made the trip.

I was just wondering why during the legacy flight do they send up 2 different hornets as opposed to the heritage flight when they use the same aircraft? Maybe the demo guy isn't legacy flight qualified?

The F-15E Demo was really great as well, I forgot to mention, and the Heritage Flight was great withthe P-38. i was out at Chino on Friday with my friend / Planes of Fame photog Britt Dietz; we and the rest of the crew at Chino were equally confused when the F/A-18C's showed up instead of the Super Hornets. My only thought might be that it might have been an error on the Navy's schedule? Originally, VFA-125 was to be in Silver Springs, Nevada this weekend. Oddly, the Navy schedule doesn't even show Chino on it. Maybe since Silver Springs cancelled the C demo, they sent them to Chino instead, who knows. Also, there has been mention this past week about wing structural problems with the F/A-18E/Fs. We were speculating that they may have had to inspect VFA-122's Super Hornets.. not sure on that either. A maintenence inspection is what kept the Super Hornet Demo on the ground at Point Mugu a month and a half ago. Regardless, I noticed that the C Demo seemed much more aggressive than I've seen in the past. The way he'd point the nose in his repositioning turns was very cool. They also added some extra 270 degree exit rolls (similar to the CF-18 Demo) coming out of some of their turns, etc... As far as the Legacy Flight, I've noticed over the last couple years that VFA-125 uses 1 jet for the Demo and 1 for Legacy - they are the only one's I've seen do this. Not sure why, but it is neat to see both F-18s fly. Looking back on this weekend, though, both demo's were awesome. I'd like to see the F-22 come to Chino in future years for the Heritage Flight - mixing P-51s and P-38s witht he most modern of our fighters.

seeing the F-22 out there would be awesome but im not getting my hopes up for it. I wouldn'tbe suprised if a 38 was at nellis for aviation nation later this year. I do remember the F18 E/F troubles at Pt. Mugu. Luckily I went friday and got to see it perform then. To me the hornet demo was not as impressive as the strike eagle. The eagle was a lot closer to the crowd, more powerful, and faster. I just wish the navy demo teams were up to the standards of the USAF.
