I came across the article today. This should make us all want to be better role models for our youth.

My heart and prayers go out to his family and the Blue Angel team. I've been keeping track of this thread and joined today to give my humble gratitude for the job he did. I come from a Navy family as well and I have always enjoyed watching the Blue's from an early age. I was going to see them in South Carolina but found out that they were coming to Viladia, GA the following weekend so I decided not too. I hope to see them in July for my honeymoon in Pensacola, FL. Godspeed to the team and LCDR Kevin Davis!

I have a question about Kojack. I am curious how he got the nickname and what it means? The TV show character is Kojak. Has everyone been misspelling the name, or is it some other reference?

Kojak got his callsign in a bar in Lisbon, Portugal. It was soon after he joined the VF-11 Red Rippers flying the F-14B Tomcat in the summer of 2000, his first squadron out of the FRS.

We were out doing what fighter guys do when they pull into port; drinking heavily, joking around, and having a good time. I'll leave it up to your imagination what exactly we were talking about. But it is in fact a reference to the TV character's freshly-shorn cranium.

******

I wasn't able to make it to Kojak's funeral this weekend, but someone who did make it told me it was a really good. The service was held in the chapel of Pensacola NAS, and the burial at Barrancas. A missing-man was performed by two F-18F's from VFA-11 and two F-18's from the VFC-12 Omars. (His two squadrons previous to the Blue Angels)

The Royal Netherlands Air Force is sending their condolences to the family, friends and collegues of Kevin J. Davis. I personally worked with Kojak last year arranging the Blue Angels overseas tour to The Netherlands. We will remember Kojak as a passioned aviator and a warm personallity. We surely will miss him.

The on-base newspapers of Oceana and Pensacola (Jet Observer and Gosport, respectively), committed the front page of their current issues to Kojak.

I feel that the Thunderbirds seem to show alot of comradery (sp?) when ever the Blues have lost a team mate. A co worker told me about a blues show that was scheduled in 99 on his base.......it never hapened due to the accident that year..However the Thunderbirds showed up for the show. Now that is a sign of respect! I have to admit.....it is sad to see #6 on Fat Albert!

I was in attendance on Saturday at Beaufort when the crash happend. I drove down from Atlanta for the show. This was one of the hardest things I have ever been a "witness" to. I did not see the crash happen, as I was walking towards the gate behind obstructions. The Blues handled the situation very perfessionally. If you didn't care or followed the Blues closley, you would have never known that it happend. My most sincere condolences go out to the family, crew and friends of LCDR Davis and the entire Blue Angels community. Here are some photos I took Saturday before the accident. Shots of him doing what he loved. LCDR Davis, you will be missed.

Does anyone know if it was Kojak that flew the #6 jet back to Florida and returned with a different jet during the 06 Oceana show?

Scott

Yes, it was Kojak that flew the #6 back to Pensacola (Rob or someone said there was some type of issue with the jet) and that he would fly it back to Pensacola and pick up the spare jet and get back to Ocean in time for the Blue's Demo.
