Media and local authorities have confirmed that Jim Leroy passed away this afternoon after sustaining multiple injuries and burns when his "Bulldog" modified Pitts crashed at the Dayton Air show. Jim, the X-Team founder and leader, was performing the "Mary's Lamb" routine when his plane hit the ground.

The ASB family sends our deepest sympathies to Joanie and the rest of the family.

There is a photo here:

Jim Leroy Crash Photo

I only saw Mr LeRoy once, and was amazed. One of the best entertainers out there.
All the performers this weekend will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm just devastated. This has been a horrible year for air shows, and this weekend in particular ghastly for aviation as a whole. My deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of all who've lost their lives this tragic weekend.

Aviation has its inherent risks, and at times like this we are reminded painfully of those risks that aviators take in fulfillment of their dreams. Godspeed Jim, Gerry, and all whose spirits have found their way eternally skyward.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Joanie and their kids, I just bought a Jim LeRoy shirt yesterday at oshkosh. And my Father and I where pole holders for Jim at Quad City last month. Since the first time i saw Jim fly at Quad City in 2004 i told my dad i want to be just like him and fly a pitts just like him. Hopefully in a few years or so i will be flying at airshows in a pitts. Jim we will miss you. Thanks for all the memorys you given all of us.

This to me is an incredible loss. The most creative, innovative guy I have met in the airshow industry! He will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Joanie and their son. The entire Infinity Entertainment Team is absolutely devastated by the loss.

I’m sure everyone here at ASB feels the same. God Bless.

We have not only lost who I think is the best airshow pilot in the business, but one of the nicest people I have ever gotten to meet and know.I met Jim here in St.Louis about 4 yrs.ago and got to see him every year thereafter and got to hold the poles for his ribbon cut.I have been in the process of building a scale RC version of him new Bulldog II with an exact pilot bust of Jim that he sent us pics for and I will finish it in his honor. We have lost an incredible pilot and an even more incredible person.

For those that haven't heard the news as of 4:30 E time... Jim has passed away from his injuries sustained during the crash at the Dayton Air show. Please refrain from posting pictures of the accident and respect his wife and kids by leaving memories untarnished by such disturbing pictures. The X-Team family has been through a tremendous amount of grief since the loss of Jimmy Franklin and Bobby Younklin. Jim was up flying with his partners during that tragic loss and now we lose Jim just two seasons later.

The business we are in is inherently dangerous. We take those calculated risks every time we step to go fly. Things do go wrong and while our immediate attention is the great loss to the community our next must be to learn from the event. Let the investigators give us that piece of the puzzle. I haven't seen it on this board but I know that eventually this will turn in to speculation and everyone’s theories. Remember to respect the families.

Jim Godspeed! Please watch over us as we do the thing we love (Fly) and help us be stronger in our future endeavors.

May we always remember Jim doing what he loved. (Signing Autographs @ Dayton in 2005)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 28, 2007

Vectren Dayton Air Show to Continue Flying Sunday

Dayton, Ohio – The Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger will continue flying as planned on Sunday, July 29 after the fatal accident of veteran pilot Jim LeRoy on Saturday. The Vectren Dayton Air Show team expresses its condolences to the LeRoy family.

Show organizers have announced anyone that has a Saturday ticket stub or wristband may re-enter the show grounds on Sunday in the General Admission area. This will permit those patrons who were unable to see the US Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration to attend.

An accident investigation is underway, and Dayton International Airport Fire Chief, Mark Carpenter, is heading this investigation.
