(Times Online) The RAF is to fly all-women combat helicopter crew into action in southern Afghanistan. The four women are expected to fly a number of mission s taking troops and supplies to the frontline against the Taliban.

With the North American air show season over for 2009, ASB members share their favorite moments from the past year. For some, it was meeting other ASB members. Update from the Younkin Family - Matt Younkin was injured while flying the Younkin Mullicoupe on Tuesday afternoon. During his flight he experienced a loss of power and was forced into an emergency landing. Younkin's injuries are non-life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.
Tropical Storm Ida left some flooding but minimal damage to the Pensacola area. With the weather consistently improving, the Navy base intends to press forward with the season closing show for the Blue Angels.

Get out your check books! Pride Aircraft of Rockford, Illinois has announced they have
two working Su-27 Flankers available. These planes were long rumored to exist but few have actually seen these privately owned massive birds. Pride reports the planes are for collectors and have been freshly overhauled.

The F-22 Raptor Demo Team rolled into Sacramento for the California Capital Air Show this weekend where organizers were expecting more than 100,000 fans over the two-day event. The USAF Thunderbirds and the Patriots added to the heavy metal line up.
A two-ship Horsemen will be thundering into Akron, Colorado for the seventh annual National Radial Engine Exhibition on Saturday, September 12. Dan Friedkin will also fly a Heritage Flight with the Viper Demo team.

NEW DOCUMENTARY CELEBRATES CANADA'S 100 YRS OF FLIGHT

The CBC and Radio-Canada have produced a four-part dual
language documentary to commemorate the centenary of flight in

BOARDWALK BOILS WITH VAPOR AND AFTERBURNER

It was almost hot enough for the Mustang to pull vapors at the Atlantic City air show Wednesday. The sizzling temperatures didn't dampen the massive crowd or the stellar performances by the USAF Thunderbirds, the 177th vipers, The Horsemen, Rob Holland and more.
According to an Atlantic City press release, the USAF Thunderbirds alluded to "secret" flight maneuvers along the Boardwalk that will offer more passes from opposite directions than in previous performances.

(PNJ) The USN Blue Angels selected three new F/A-18 Hornet pilots, a C-130 pilot,
maintenance officer and supply officer. They will join the team in
September.
The team also selected a new public affairs officer, who will joint the team for the 2011 season.
Champion pilot Chandy Clanton died Friday when her Edge 540 aerobatics
plane crashed as she was preparing for this weekend's Wingnuts Flying
Circus in Tarkio, MO. The cause of the crash isn't yet known.
For a young ASB member, the chance to sit in "Big Beautiful Doll" was as close as one can get to flying the magical machine. Rob Brindley flies with the virtual Horsemen but the real deal in Duxford thrilled everyone at Friday's practice.
Dayton, Ohio – The Vectren Dayton Air Show presented by Kroger announces two last-minute, but very exciting additions to an already blockbuster line-up. Confirmed this week are a P-51 Mustang Demonstration and a C-5 Galaxy flyover that will occur each show day, July 18th and 19th.

NTSB RELEASES REPORT ON STEVE FOSSETT'S CRASH

(AP) The air crash that killed entrepreneur Steve Fossett probably was caused by downdrafts that
exceeded the ability of his small plane to recover before slamming into
a California mountainside, federal safety officials said Thursday.
At this year's EAA AirVenture, U.S. aerobatic pilot and Red Bull air racer Michael Goulian will receive the prestigious Bill Barber award. The award recognizes pilots with great skill and showmanship and is chosen by industry peers.
(AP) A faulty seatbelt and the failure of an Air Force pilot to
properly check he was strapped in led to the fatal crash of a Snowbird
jet two years ago in Montana.
In its final report into the May 2007
crash, the Air Force notes that Capt. Shawn McCaughey experienced
problems with the seat belt latch in his jet at least three times
before.

The Rhode Island Air National Guard Air Show will host both the USN Blue Angels and the Canadian Snowbirds this weekend. The Horsemen will also join the fantastic line up along with Michael Goulian and Sean Tucker.

In late May, the USN Blue Angels announced it was considering canceling Tuesday practice because of "budgetary concerns." However, a team spokesperson says those concerns have been alleviated now and the team will continue with its morning practices.
The Vectren Dayton Air Show presented by Kroger announced the massive B-52 Bomber will be on static display during the show July 18-19 with a flyover on Saturday only.

(AP) OMAHA BEACH, President Barack Obama honored the valiant dead and the "sheer improbability" of their D-Day victory, commemorating Saturday's 65th anniversary of the decisive invasion.
The National Naval Air Museum is now undertaking the restoration of a SBD Dauntless recovered from Lake Michigan a few months ago. Museum officials say the the process will take several years. In the meantime, Planes of Fame in Chino, CA will be flying its Dauntless on Saturday as part of its Living History program.
(Wiltshire) The organizer of the world’s biggest air show has promised aviation enthusiasts that this year’s show will go on – come rain, hail, sleet or snow. Tim Price, the director of the Royal International Air Tattoo, made the comments during the event launch, at RAF Fairford.
Over the last 13 years, the Indianapolis Air Show has donated more than 1.3 million dollars to the state's children's charities while hosting one of the country's top air shows. This "lucky" anniversary show features the USN Blue Angels and the Army's Golden Knights.
From Janesville to Rochester, air show fans in the U.S. enjoyed great weather and plenty of action as nearly all shows experienced record or near record crowds.
Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of being a Horsemen is getting the
chance to take people for rides in the P-51 Mustang. At the Luke AFB Air Show,

CECIL FIELD BENEFIT SHOW A SUCCESS

For the air show family, the show at Cecil Field in Florida was a success the minute Alan Henley landed with his family in a C-47. The immense joy and support for the Henley family was immeasurable, but the organizers say it was a financial success as well.
Blue skies gave Langley AFB and Seymour Johnson AFB tremendous venues over the weekend with large crowds and perfect flying. If you attended, what did you think? If you didn't, see what you missed.
The Planes of Fame in Chino, Ca is a favorite of those who love the sights and sounds of vintage aircraft. This year's theme focuses on Grumman aircraft, including the Bearcat and Tigercat.
The USAF Thunderbirds are headlining the Air Power Over Hampton Roads air show at Langley AFB this weekend, but the highlight for many will be the final flight of the F-15C. The show will also webcast its event live.

The three ship Horsemen, flying Navy F8F Bearcats, joined USN Blue Angels solos for a remarkable display of Naval aviation history at the NAS Corpus Christi air show Friday.
Rain and a low ceiling kept the Horsemen from launching the three Bearcats for a special formation fly by with the USN Blue Angels over the USS Lexington Thursday. The team may try again on Friday.

The Red Arrows could get their first ever female pilot later this year. The officer, one of only ten female pilots in the entire RAF, is among

The weather kept most performers on the ground Saturday, but the Blues, Raptor and Eagle delighted the faithful who waited in the rain.
